Notes:
Summary The noradrenergic innervation of the venous anastomosis between the renal advehens and the renal revehens vein of the domestic fowl and its valve, which is situated in the anastomosis, was studied by the histochemical fluorescence method according to Falck and Owman. A dense threedimensional network of monoaminergic nerve terminals occurs in the valve and in the adjacent part of the wall of the venous anastomosis. A similar rich MA innervation has been observed by other authors only in the iris and in the nictitating membrane. The free border of the valve containing numerous epitheloid cells shows no MA innervation. Other large veins of the vascular system of the kidney have a normal twodimensional network of MA nerve terminals on the surface of the media. Strong specific MA fluorescence is observed in the cells accumulated around the small vessels in the vicinity of the anastomosis. These vessels have a thick muscular wall typical for the arteriovenous anastomoses e.g. in fingertips. Both in the nerve terminals and in the MA cells the specific fluorescence disappears after the administration of reserpine. An investigation with microscope-photometer of light emitted by the MA nerve terminals of the valve gives a spectrophotometric curve with a main peak 500 nm and two small other peaks situated in 555 and 585 nm. The same curve is to be obtained from the MA cells mentioned. The spectroscopical curve of the diffuse fluorescence in the wall of the valve after administration of reserpine shows only the peak 555 nm, whereas the main peak 500 nm disappears. The sensitivity against the administration of reserpine and the spectroscopical analysis of the emitted light demonstrate that the cells giving an intensive fluorescence contain noradrenalin.
