Summary 1. The kinetics of reactions (1) and (2) 21-iodo-17α-hydroxyprogesterone in dimethylformamide and in acetone were investigated with the aid of polarographic analysis. 2. A positive salt effect was detected in reactions (1) and (2). The size of the salt effect in reaction (2) depended on the form of the cation of the indifferent electrolyte and the rate constant was inversely proportional toμ 1/2. 3. The temperature dependency of the rate constants of reactions (1) and (2) in dimethylformamide have been studied and the energy of activation and pre-exponential factors determined. 4. It was shown that on carrying out reaction (2) under two-phase conditions the dissolution of sodium formate may be the limiting process.
