Notes: Abstract We computed the specific heat of directed lattice animals using a Monte Carlo method for various animals sizesN, withN up to 100 on the square andN up to 125 on the simple cubic lattices. The specific heat as a function of the temperature for various animal sizes exhibits peaks which seem to approach a collapse transition temperature monotonically from below with increasingN. A least square fit together with finite-size scaling then gives both the transition temperature Tc and the specific heat exponent α for these two lattices. The cyclomatic number distributions for the number of animals with fixed animal sizeN are also calculated and these seem to obey a scaling law for largeN.

Notes: Abstract A simple method to compute the drag coefficient of two-dimensional bodies with arbitrary shapes is presented. The procedure is based on cellular automata as an extreme idealization of the molecular dynamics of a viscous fluid. We verify the algorithm by examples and obtain results in quantitative agreement with experiments even when eddies behind the obstacle are formed.

Notes: Abstract A graph-theoretic method for the complete derivability of bond graphs from their site counterparts is described. Bond perimeter, valence, and cyclomatic number distributions as well as spatial extent measures can be systematically generated when coupled with a site valence partition in the original graph. Relevant consequences for bond configurations include the facts that (i) percolation perimeter and cyclomatic number distributions are equivalent, (ii) geometrical susceptibilities are not independent, and (iii) a critical site/bond ratio exists.

Notes: Abstract Directed configurations in dimensions 2 to 4 are investigated regarding the average number of returns to the anisotropy, or time, axis. Series expansions for this quantity, show that it vanishes asymptotically with a dimension dependent exponent equal to the critical exponent for directed animals in the corresponding dimensionality.

Notes: Abstract The consequences of Schonmann's new proof that the critical threshold is unity for certain bootstrap percolation models are explored. It is shown that this proof provides an upper bound for the finite-size scaling in these systems. Comparison with data for one case demonstrates that this scaling appears to give the correct asymptotics. We show that the threshold for a finite system of sizeL scales asO[ln(lnL)] for the isotropic model in three dimensions where sites that fail to have at least four neighbors are culled.

Notes: Abstract A relaxation study of simple-cubic site trees taking 18 months of CDC Cyber computer time is used to estimate the radius-of-gyration dependence on the size, both as regards the correlation exponent and the confluent correction. The latter is found to be compatible with an analytic term within the uncertainty limits. The radius prefactor is estimated as 0.542±0.005 and the limiting site perimeter-to-size ratio as 2.905±0.005.

Notes: Abstract Cluster numbersn s from exact expansions for directed percolation in dimensions 2 to 4 are studied at various probability values. The main considerations as regards the asymptotic behaviour are that: $$(i) n_s \propto \exp ( - const s^Z ) for p〈 p_c (Z = 1) and p 〉 p_c \left( {Z = 1 - \frac{1}{d}} \right).$$ (ii) at the critical thresholdn s ∼s −τ+1, although the data can only be reconciled with existing estimates for the exponent if the scaling ansatz is refined to include a first correction.

Notes: Abstract A method for conversion of directed site animals to their bond counterparts is used to significantly extend the number of such configurations in 2, 3, 4 dimensions, obtain their loop partition and study the singularity structure (for both dominant and subdominant singularities) of the corresponding dilute polymer transitions. A special property of bond directed configurations (equivalence lence of loop and bond perimeter partition) is exploited to obtain longer susceptibility series in 3 and 4 dimensions and the gap exponent estimate is refined into the intervals TANO

Notes: Abstract The percolation perimeter to-size ratio of directed animals is investigated. For the square lattice it is found to be very close to 0.75 and the first correction is found on both the triangular and square lattices to be Bethe-like as for normal lattice animals.
