Notes: [Auszug] The iron ore reserves of the Hamersley Iron Province exceed 33 x 109 tonnes, much of it contained in huge ore bodies, some of theai exceeding 5 km along strike and extending below the present water table to as much as 400m down dip. They conform to the bedding of the host BIF and, in common with ...

Notes: [Auszug] The substrate (water or solution) is made to flow at a constant volume rate, V, through a horizontal channel of rectangular cross-section which it fills completely. The velocity, vm, of an element of the surface along the centre of the channel may be measured by observing the passage of a floating ...

Notes: Abstract An experiment, in which an iron-nickel-copper sulphide melt was heated with synthetic chromite and then cooled, showed that substantial quantities of chromite had dissolved in the melt and had then recrystallized as euhedral crystals rimmed with magnetite. This experiment suggests that the unusual chromite (low in Mg and Al) which is associated with the sulphide phase in Western Australian nickel ores may have formed in a similar way.

Notes: Abstract The driving forces for recrystallization of sulphide minerals that arise from particle size variations (surface energy), from temperature gradients and from the formation of a new phase are compared semi quantitatively. It is shown by expressing these driving forces in terms of gradients in activities or vapour pressures or as free energy changes, that surface energies become relatively unimportant as particle size increases above one micron, whereas temperature gradients and the formation of new phases offer opportunities for large crystals to grow. These effects are discussed and a brief reference is also made to the effects of applied pressure.
