Description / Table of Contents:
Summary 1. Division of the processes of pain into the instances of periphery, spinal segments, brain-stem, and cerebrum. The local cellular self-help of the injured tissue is completed and extended by the auxiliary actions of reflexes, urges, instincts, expressive motions, and actions. They serve as partial, total, or associative actions of removing and combatting pain in protection, forbearance, flight, defense, attack. They have their subjective central nervous representation in reflex sensations, feelings, emotion, psychical pains. Conception of reflex sensations (pain, tickling, itching, chill and sultriness, orgasm). 2. Application to pains which originate in the central nervous instances themselves (pathologic pains). Insertion of medical conceptions in the scheme of pains: chordotomy and leucotomy, which interrupt the communication between the first and second or between the second and third central instances, causalgia, syringomyelia,Head's zones, phantom limb. Secondary ego and superindividual combat against pain.
