Notes: Abstract Tubular-shaped nylon specimens were tested at room temperature under tension-tension and tension-compression stresses. The principal stress ratio for small strains was essentially constant during a test, and effective strain rates from test to test did not vary significantly. The biaxial-stress data for small strains are compared with stress predictions for the maximum-distortion-energy and maximum-strain-energy theories. For these comparisons, the stress data were determined using biaxial-strain data and strain expressions which are proposed for each theory. Agreement between the stress data and predictions for both theories are good for 1 percent effective strain.

Notes: Abstract Strength results for a filled epoxy are reported for biaxial stresses. Three test methods and several specimen configurations were employed. Strength magnitudes were quite dependent upon specimen geometry under compression-compression stresses. For other stress states, this dependence disappeared and the modified Coulomb-Mohr theory fit the data well. Similar data for graphite are cited.
