    Notizen: Conclusions 1. The kinetics of the polymerization of ethylene oxide in the mass and in solvents on strontium carbonate was investigated by a calorimetric method. 2. The polymerization of ethylene oxide represents a steady-state process. The polymerization rate is proportional to the concentration of the catalyst and monomer to the first degree. 3. The only possible reaction limiting the length of the polymer chain is termination or transfer on the monomer. 4. The principles determining the duration of the induction period were studied. The reciprocal of the induction period and the polymerization rate are determined mainly by the same factors. 5. The effective activation energies, measured according to the induction period and observed rate constant, prove to be close: 18.8±1 and 18.4± kcal/mole, respectively. 6. The negative influence of small additives of polar substances, as well as polar solvents on the induction period was noted. 7. It is proposed that the presence of an induction period and autoacceleration in the system investigated is related to the process of formation of active centers on the catalyst surface, the rate of which is strongly influenced by the presence of dipole molecules in the surface layer.

    Notizen: Summary Functional type separation of hydroxyl-containing poly(butylen terephtalates) by liquid chromatography of molecules in “critical conditions” was investigated. Under such conditions the change in the free energy, ΔF, of a homogeneous macromolecule equals zero when entering a pore, irrespective of its length; in this case the chromatogram obtained is not complicated by the separation of the molecules in terms of sizes, and contains information only on the types of functionality. The critical conditions of investigation have been determined on silica in a heptane-tetrahydrofuran (THF) mixture.

    Notizen: Summary The separation of linear oligocarbonates has been carried out by the type of functionality, namely the number and nature of terminal chloroanhydride and hydroxyl groups. The analysis was performed with the aid of a novel variant of HPLC — “separation in a critical region” (SCR), on the boundary of the exclusion and adsorption separation modes. The SCR method is characterised by practically complete disappearance of separation by molecular masses (sizes) while chromatograms obtained in the critical region give information only on the types of functionality of oligomers under study. The critical point for the oligocarbonates has been found on silicas “Silasorb 600” and “Lichrosphere Si 500” in a binary solvent carbon tetrachloride-chloroform. An effect of pore size on the retention volumes of macromolecules of different functionality under critical conditions is discussed.

The analysis was performed with the aid of a novel variant of HPLC in the critical region on the boundary of the exclusion and adsorption separation modes. This method is characterized by practically complete disappereance of separation by molecular masses thus giving only information on the type of functionality. The critical conditions have been found on two systems. The first consists of a Lichrospher Si 100 column and a hexane-acetone mixture as eluent, while the second consists of a Zorbax NH2 column and a diethylether-acetone mixture.

    Kurzfassung: The mechanical and physico-chemical properties of polymers obtained from reactive oligomers depend largely on the functionality and molecular weight distribution of the prepolymers chosen as starting material.The adsorption chromatography offers the possibility to determine the content of bifunctional, monofunctional and non reactive macromolecules in oligomers and to separate these species.The gel permeation chromatography proved to be the most convenient method for the determination of the molecular weight distribution.A method for calculating the weight and number distribution function of oligomers from gel permeation chromatographic data is presented.An analytical expression of the distribution function of the final polymer can be obtained by transformation of the distribution function of the oligomer using the method proposed by BAMFORD.The irreversible polycondensation of a polydisperse unimodal pre-polymer with a bifunctional monomer is represented by analytical expressions allowing to describe the change of the distribution function during the polycondensation process and to obtain the final distribution function of the condensation polymer.The validity of the theoretical assumptions was investigated experimentally by reacting diisocyanates with polyester dioles.
    Notizen: Die physikalisch-mechanischen und die physikochemischen Eigenschaften von Polymeren, die aus reaktionsfähigen Oligomeren erhalten werden, hängen wesentlich von der Funktionalität und der Verteilung der relativen Molekülmassen der als Ausgangsmaterial dienenden Vorpolymeren ab.Die Absorptionschromatographie ermöglicht es, den relativen Gehalt an di- und monofunktionellen sowie funktionslosen Makromolekülen im Oligomeren zu bestimmen und ihre präparative Trennung durchzuführen.Für die Bestimmung der Verteilung der relativen Molekülmassen empfiehlt sich die Gelchromatographie.Es wird ein Verfahren zur Berechnung der Massen- und Zahlenfunktion der Verteilung der relativen Molekülmassen von Oligomeren aus gelchromatographischen Angaben vorgeschlagen.Die analytische Form der Verteilungsfunktion des Endpolymeren als Ergebnis der Transformation der Verteilungsfunktion des Ausgangsoligomeren kann theoretisch nach einem von Bamford vorgeschlagenen Verfahren gewonnen werden.Für den Fall der nichtumkehrbaren Polykondensation eines polydispersen unimodalen Vorpolymeren mit einem bifunktionellen Monomeren wurden analytische Ausdrücke erhalten, die es ermöglichen, die Änderung der Verteilungsfunktion während des Prozesses zu beschreiben und die endgültige Verteilungsfunktion des Polykondensats zu erhalten.Zur Überprüfung der theoretischen Annahmen wurde experimentell die Reaktion von Diisocyanaten mit Polyesterdiolen untersucht.
