Notes: The crystal structures of the title compounds, (C2N3H8)2[CuCl4], (I), and (C8H14N4)[CuCl4], (II), have been studied by X-ray diffraction. The structures consist of discrete [CuCl4]2− anions with two monoprotonated (C2N3H8)+ cations for (I) and a diprotonated (C8N4H14)2+ cation for (II). The [CuCl4]2− anions of both compounds have flattened tetrahedral geometries. There are several N—H...Cl weak bonds that join the [CuCl4]2− anions and the organic cations helping retain the pseudo-tetrahedral geometries of the anions.

Notes: In the present work, laser surface alloying of H13 tool steel by using TiC has been performed by means of DHPDL (Direct high power diode laser). Different layers were produced by varying laser beam power and powder feeding rate. Several alloying degrees were obtained depending on the laser parameters employed. Laser surface alloyed layers were analyzed by using optical and scanning electron microscopy. Wear resistance was evaluated through pin-on-disk tests at room temperature. In general, it was observed that dilution of TiC powders into the molten H13 substrate decreased as the powder-feeding rate increased and particles size of the titanium carbide precipitates was larger for the higher feeding rates. Wear measurements showed lower values for the wear resistance coefficient of laser alloying layers produced at higher values of the powder injection (feeding) rate. Analysis of the wear surface track was conducted and the specific contribution of the microstructural features on the wear coefficient was assessed. Thus, it was found that larger particles sizes and particle contents protected the martensitic and dendritic steel matrix from being deeply worn. Lower TiC contents in the alloyed layer gave rise to a higher contribution of the plastic deformation in the wear track

Notes: Thermomechanical processing allows the attainment of spheroidized microstructures thatshow improved mechanical properties. In this work, a thermomechanical processing routeconsisting of two steps was developed for two ultrahigh carbon steels (UHCS) containing 1.3 and1.5%C. This route develops structures of fine spheroidized cementite particles in a fine-grainedferrite matrix. Spheroidized microstructures are formed by eutectoid carbide particles in the UHCS-1.3C and by proeutectoid and eutectoid carbide particles in the UHCS-1.5C. In the latter steel, theproeutectoid carbide particle size is larger than the eutectoid carbide particle size. The carbide sizedistribution remains basically constant with austenitizing temperature for both steels. Plane-strainfracture toughness of spheroidized UHCS-1.3C is higher than for UHCS-1.5C, about 80 vs 40 MPam1/2. These values do not vary significantly with austenitizing temperature which is attributed tothe constancy of the mean proeutectoid and eutectoid carbide size

Notes: By oxidative-addition reactions of Br2 and I2 to SnCl2 in the presence of NN-dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO), the mixed halide complexes SnCl2Br2L2 (L = DMF, DMSO) and SnCl2I2(DMSO)2 are obtained. The IR, Raman and 119Sn Mössbauer spectra suggest that the ligands coordinate in cis position through the oxygen atom, a C1 symmetry being found for SnCl2I2(DMSO)2. SnCl2Br2(DMSO)2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with two molecules per unit cell. The lattice constants are a = 752.4, b = 1350.6, c = 820.3 pm, α = 89.60, β = 117.31 and γ = 90.83°. 2317 independent observed reflexions were used for refinement: R = 8.4%. The structure is disordered and our results are again consistent with a C1 molecular symmetry. Mixtures of products were obtained by reaction of SnCl2 with I2 in the presence of DMF and by reaction of SnBr2 with I2 in the presence of DMSO.

Description / Table of Contents: Reaction of Molybdenum Pentachloride with (SCN)2, (SeCN)2, and ICNBy reaction of MoCl5 with (SCN)2, (SeCN)2, and ICN in CCl4 or H2CCl2 the compounds MoCl5(NCS)2, MoCl5(NCSe)2, and MoCl5NCI were obtained. They are very sensitive towards hydrolysis and decompose on heating. The compounds are characterized by their vibrational and EPR spectra which indicate that the pseudohalogen is bonded via a nitrogen atom.

Notes: The compounds SnCl2Br2(MeCN)2, “Sn3Cl8Br4(THF)6”, and “Sn3Cl10Br2(OEt2)6” were obtained by reaction between SnCl2 and Br2 in acetonitrile (MeCN), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and diethyl ether (OEt2). The two last are solid solutions of SnCl4L2 and SnCl2Br2L2 (L = THF, OEt2) in the proportions 1:2 and 2:1, respectively. The compounds are characterized by IR, Raman, and Mössbauer spectroscopy, a C1 symmetry being found for SnCl2Br2 (MeCN)2 together with a C2v symmetry, with the ligands in trans positions, for SnCl2Br2L2 (L = THF, OEt2). The Mössbauer spectrum of SnBr4(THF)2 was also obtained, which has not previously been reported. The reaction between SnCl2 and I2 has also been studied in the same solvents, and the formation of SnCl4L2 (L = MeCN, THF, OEt2), SnI4, and a small amount of SnI3Cl was observed, which have been identified by Raman spectroscopy.
