Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary Copper disodium ethylenediamine tetra-acetate (Cu-EDTA) has a higher toxicity than copper (II) ions or Ca-EDTA in rabbits, rats and guinea pigs. Within 8 hours after intravenous injection of Cu-EDTA (32 μMol/kg) in rabbits, the plasma activities of alanine and aspartate aminotransferase, glutamate, sorbitol and lactate dehydrogenase and fructose diphosphate aldolase increase 30 to 250 fold over initial values. The serum concentration of potassium increases, whereas that of calcium decreases; sodium remains unchanged. Blood sugar values fall to a very low level in rabbits and rats, whereas a phase of hyperglycemia occurs before the decrease in the case of guinea pigs.
