Notes:
Direct supersonic expansions of the eluent from a supercritical fluid chromatograph have been investigated as a means of attaining high selectivity in laserinduced fluorescence detection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The direct expansion method appears impractical for capillary SFC, but it works well for microbore, packed-column supercritical fluid chromatography. Perylene and benzo[a]pyrene were selectively detected at limits of 0.5 ng and 40 ng, respectively, in standard mixtures and coal tar samples.
