Notes: Sediments within and immediately above pillow lavas of the Troodos Massif of Cyprus show abnormally high concentrations of iron, manganese, arsenic and copper. Most likely they contain precipitates related to volcanism along a Tethyan rise. In addition, silica has been leached from lavas and has partly remobilized to form chert layers above the ferromanganese sediments. As a result of hydrothermal activity some horizons are enriched in copper, lead, zinc and nickel, and manganese and arsenic have been mobilized in the sediment column.

Notes: [Auszug] Nearly 600 age determinations have been published from the Arabian-Nubian shield, about two-thirds of which are from Saudi Arabia. Although most of these are isolated K/Ar or Rb/Sr ages, and cannot be considered reliable indicatorsof geological events, available U-Pb zircon and Rb/Sr isochron ages ...

Notes: [Auszug] We originally stated that we consider that the motions of the three plates may be described as approximating to rotation about the Libyan pole of Le Pichon and Hertzler3. One of the reasons for the approximation is that there is some evidence that the plates suffer internal deformation for, ...

Notes: [Auszug] HARRIS AND GASS REPLY-Jackson and Stoeser have not distinguished between the identification of a Phanerozoic alkaline province in northeast Africa and our speculations on possible causes of this event and its apparent absence in Arabia. Notes: [Auszug] The sedimentary record shows that before the Middle Oligocne (32 Myr) a shallow sea extended southwards from the mam 'Tethyan Ocean' on to the then contiguous Nubian-Arabian plate" 9 South of this sea was a low-lying flat or gently warped peneplaned land surface8 A drastic change occurred m the Red ...

Notes: [Auszug] The rifts which trisect the Middle East originated as zones of crustal attenuation during the formation of the Afro-Arabian dome. Subsequently, the style of deformation changed to one of horizontal displacement, the widening rifts being floored by new oceanic crust. This separation was due to the ...

Notes: [Auszug] Available geological and geophysical data indicate that the Troodos massif is a Mesozoic volcanic complex the structure of which is comparable with that, deduced from geophysical data, for present day mid-ocean rises. It is suggested that the massif evolved beneath an oceanic Tethys and may ...

Notes: [Auszug] The Southern Troodos transform fault (formerly called the 'Arakapas fault zone'9) is an approximately 5-km-wide oceanic strike-slip fault system trending E-W along the southern margin of the ophiolite9-11. Notes: [Auszug] Although occurring in rocks ranging in composition from ankaramites through olivine basalts and trachy-basalts to trachyandesites, the leucite is far more abundant in the trachybasalts than in the other rock types. Trachy-basalts are the commonest rocks on Tristan, and most of the leucite-bearing ...

Notes: [Auszug] Extensive magmatic and metamorphic events have occurred within the Earth's continental crust far from plate margins. During the last 800 million years Africa has only been host to such events during the breaks in the systematic motion of the African plate. This suggests that sublithospheric ...
