Description / Table of Contents:
The reaction between Hg2J2 and Sb at about 280°C yields two compounds:Hg4Sb2J3 was prepared by heating a mixture of 2 Hg + 3 Hg2J2 + 4 Sb or 5 Hg + 3 HgJ2 + 4 Sb with a small excess of mercury. The dark-grey insoluble compound is hardly attacked by acids, but is quickly decomposed by bases. Crystallographic data: cubic, Th6,/-Pa 3, a = 13.436 Å, Z = 8.Hg3Sb2J4, a compound of similar properties, but less resistant against acids, was prepared by heating a mixture of Hg2J2 + HgJ2 + 2 Sb. Crystallographic data: tetragonal, D4h3-P4/n bm, a = 21.36 Å, c = 8.08 Å, Z = 12. It is identic with a compound prepared by Grdenič et al.(3) from Hg and SbJ3.
Notes:
