Diphenyl-α- bzw. -γ-pyron lassen sich mit tertiären aromatischen Aminen und mit Diaryläthylenen zu Farbsalzen der Pyryliumreihe kondensieren. Erstmalig werden Triphenylpyryliumsalze mit einer Dimethylaminogruppe als Auxochrom beschrieben. Der bathochrome Effekt der Dimethylaminogruppe ist hier auffallend stark. Für die Darstellung des 4-Dimethylaminopheny1-2,6-diphenyl-pyryliumsalzes wird ein besonders einfaches Verfahren angegeben.
