Zinc Complexes of Bis(imidazolylmethyl) Sulfides and OxidesThe ligand types bis(benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl) sulfide (BIMS), bis(5-methyl-4-imidazolylmethyl) sulfide (MIMS), bis[2-(benzimidazol-2-yl)ethyl] sulfide (BIES), and bis(benzimidazol-2-ylmethyl) oxide (BIMO) were used to prepare zinc complexes. With ZnCl2, ZnBr2, and Zn(NO3)2 molecular species L · ZnX2 were obtained in all cases. With Zn(ClO4)2 and Zn(BF4)2 the only isolable species were the ionic complexes [L2Zn]X2. Spectra and the structure determinations of the BIMS · ZnBr2 and MIMS · Zn(NO3)2 complexes have revealed that the thioether sulfur atoms do not coordinate and that all complexes obtained are tetrahedral.
