Oligophosphane Ligands, XXIX. - Chelate-Phosphane-Stabilized Rhodium(I) Complexes Containing Terminal Phosphido Ligands: Synthesis, Reactions, and Electronic StructureReaction of (bupp2ph4)RhCl[bupp2ph4 = (tBu)P(CH2CH2CH2PPh2)2] with LiPR2(R = phenyl, cyclohexyl) yields the phosphido derivatives (bupp2ph4)RhPPh2 (1a) and (bupp2ph4)RhPCy2 (1b). 1a and 1b react with methyl halides by elimination of MePR2 to give the complexes (bupp2ph4)RhX (X = Cl: 2; X = 1; 3). HCl affords HPR2 and (bupp2ph4)Rh(H)Cy2 (4). HBF4 protonates the R2P ligands of 1a,b to form [(bupp2ph4)RhP(H)Ph2][BF4] (5a) and [(bupp2ph4)RhP(H)Cy2][BF4] (5b). The complexes [(bupp2ph4)-RhP(Me)R2][OSO2F] with R = Ph (6a) and R = Cy (6b) are produced upon alkylation of 1a,b with MeOSO2F. BF3 and BPh3 yield the adducts (bupp2ph4)Rh(BF3)PR2 (R = Ph: 7a; R = Cy: 7b) and (bupp2ph4)Rh(BPh3)PCy2 (8). The three-membered ring derivative Ph2 (9) is obtained from 1a and CH2N2. Reaction of 1b with sulfur leads to cleavage of the Rh-PCy2 bond and partial oxidation of the chelate ligand to give Ph2P(η2-S2PCy2) (10). Tellurium adds to the metal-PCy2 bond of 1b to yield tetracoordinate fluxional (11). Addition of H2 to 1a,b affords (bupp2ph4)Rh(H)(HPR2) (R = Ph: 12a; R = Cy: 12b). MO calculations performed on the model complex (H3P)3RhPH2 reveal a strong preference for that P3Rh-PH2 rotamer, in which the P3Rh and H2P building-blocks are oriented in a coplanar fashion. The stabilization of this geometry is shown to arise from substantial P(p)-Rh(p) π interactions.
Notes:
