The Surface Rule of Corrosion and the Effekt of Inhibitors in the Electrochemical CorrosionThe surface rule of corrosion was formulated clearly first in 1924. Ever since, especially engineers have made use of it to estimate the extent of corrosion. To be sure, the rule is not of universal validity. It is valid under certain conditions only. These conditions can be derived from the fundamental rules of the corrosion processes mathematically so that you will obtain a general law of which the classical surface rule is a special case. For anodically and cathodically controlled corrosion processes the surface rule is valid exactly at certain ratios of the cathodic to the anodic areas and sometimes approximately at different ratios. For preponderantly cathodically or anodically controlled processes the classical rule is invalid.Assuming a simplified mechanism of certain inhibitors you can derive the effects of adding inhibitors from the general surface law mathematically. The obtained results agree with shop experience.
Notizen:
