Notes: Abstract  In this paper a new microgripper will be presented. The specific feature is the microfabrication based on a UV-lithographic process in microstructurable, photosensitive glass. Technological and manufacturing problems of the gripper will be described. The developed microgripper is actuated by a piezoelectric ceramic (monomorph). Glass microstructures are used as solid state hinges. With the special design of the gripper it is possible to realise a high distance ratio. The deflection of the gripping arms is some hundred micrometers. The gripping forces are a few mN up to 50 mN. The new grippers were fabricated and tested successfully.

Notes: Abstract  The application of glass in the microsystems technology becomes more and more important. Therefore, it is necessary to combine special microstructurable glasses with various other materials (e.g. joining with silicon by anodic bonding, joining with metals by electroforming, joining with polymers by glueing, joining with various other glasses by brazing or diffusion welding). In order to increase the use of glass in the microsystems technology especially four fields of research are important: –development of special glasses with various properties –technologies of microstructuring –technologies of joining –application These four topics are main research fields performed at the Institute of Glass/Ceramics-Technology and will be described in this paper.

Description / Table of Contents: A newly developed compound-cast steel for wear-exposed installationsThe first-ever description is given of the Klöckner compound casting process. Originally employed for the production of rails of composite steel, the method has been developed steel, the method has been developed further for the production of bar steel, plates and special profiles. The compound-casting principle is particularly suited for the use of steels for parts exposed to some results of examinations is followed by the description of certain applications.

Notes: 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-cyanoindoles are converted in excellent yields into the corresponding formylindoles by sodium hypophosphite/nickel according to the method of BACKEBERG and STASKUN. Condensation of these formylindoles with nitromethane or nitroethane affords the related nitrovinyl-indoles, which are reduced to the aminoalkyl-indoles quoted in the title by means of lithium aluminium hydride. On the other hand, 5-chloroacetyl-indole is aminated by reaction with various secondary amines, and the aminoketones formed are reduced to the corresponding 5-(2-amino-1-hydroxy-alkyl)-indoles. Condensation of 1-acetyl-7-hydroxy-indoline with chloroacetyl chloride according to FRIEDEL-CRAFTS yields the 1-acetyl-4-chloroacetyl-7-hydroxy-indoline, which is transformed into indoline derivatives carrying a 2-amino-1-hydroxyethyl side-chain in position 4.
