Notes:
The elastic behavior of swollen polystyrene model-networks, prepared by anionic block-copolymerization of styrene with small amounts of divinylbenzene, has been studied by unidirectional compression measurements. The compression modulus G* as defined in the present paper, was related to the structural characteristics of the networks and to the interaction parameters of the systems. The influence of these various parameters on the gel behavior has been discussed. From comparison between uniaxial compression measurements and X-ray diffraction data on the same gels, it was shown at least qualitatively, that the elastic chain-interpenetration depends upon the functionality of the crosslinkages.
