Notes:
Summary Estimates of heritability for five root characters and genetic correlations between percent dry matter and each of the remaining characters were determined in a population of half-long purple top white turnips. Heritability was fairly high for difference in diameter between upper and lower root half, intermediate for percentage of dry matter and flatness of base, and low for length/width ratio and fresh root weight. There was a significant negative correlation between percent dry matter and fresh root weight. The prospects for further improvement of the species are discussed briefly.
