    Notizen: A method for reconstructing two-dimensional distributions from a limited number of integrals is presented. The method can be applied for arbitrary expansions of the distribution; thus different types of distributions can be processed with different expansions. The method is numerically simple, and is especially useful for reconstructing time evolution of two-dimensional images. A comparison with maximum entropy tomography and an example of reconstructing tokamak radiation profiles in the case of impurity injection are presented.

    Notizen: Different methods are tested for the injection of small (〈100 μm) pellets into tokamak plasmas using laser acceleration. In one type of method the pellets are formed in the random fragmentation process of a foil, while in another series of experiments aluminum granules were accelerated. In the first case pellet velocities up to 4 km/s were achieved, but the reproducibility was found to be poor. In the second case the reproducibility was much better, and pellets with diameters in the ten micron range were accelerated to 200–300 m/s velocity. With some further improvements, this technique may become a simple source of impurities for transport studies in fusion plasmas.

    Notizen: A simple one-dimensional model describing the spread of laser blow-off injected ions along the magnetic field lines is presented. The model is based on the kinetic theory. A closed set of kinetic equations that contain a Coulomb collision term is solved numerically. For impurity density less than the plasma density, the effect of the ambipolar electric field is negligible, as shown. The results of the model calculation are compared with experimental results obtained on the Tokamak Experiment for Technically Oriented Research (TEXTOR) [H. Soltwisch et al., Plasma Phys. Controlled Fusion 26, 23 (1984)] tokamak by the use of injection of lithium atoms, and the agreement is satisfactory. The results of the model and possible applications for diagnostic purposes are discussed in detail. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Notizen: A new method is described for the measurement of soft x-ray (SXR) and ultrasoft x-ray (USXR) radiation of fusion plasmas. The system applies the microchannel plate (MCP) detector and can be used to measure the emitted radiation along 12 chords in different energy ranges. The operation of the MCP in the measurement is discussed in detail. Some results are included which demonstrate the capabilities of the device.

    Notizen: An IBM PC compatible computer network based data acquisition system for the small tokamak MT-1M is described. The network operating system is DECnet-DOS and the computers are connected by a thin wire ethernet cable. The tokamak measurement system is divided into subsystems which enable fast modular reconfiguration of the system. Every subsystem can manage its own data and can access data of the other subsystems as well.
