Notes: : We study the class of topologies which are induced by weighted quasi-metrics (equivalently, partial metrics). Partial metrics were introduced by S. Matthews in his study of topological models appropriate for the denotational semantics of programming languages. It follows from our results that each T0-space with a s̀-disjoint base admits a weightable quasi-metric and that each weightable quasi-metric space is quasi-developable. Those partially ordered sets whose Alexandrov topology admits a weightable quasi-metric are characterized. We also show that the Pixley-Roy space over the reals does not admit a weightable quasi-metric.

Notes: Those ordered topological spaces (X, ??, ≤), for which the set of all ??×??-neighborhoods of the partial order ≤ forms a quasi uniformity that determines (X, ??, ≤), are studied. The investigations are motivated by the following problem posed by P. Fletcher and W. F. Lindgren: For which quasi-uniform spaces (X, ??) is the family of all ??(??*×??*)-neighborhoods of ∩?? a quasi uniformity compatible with ??(??)?

Notes: We discuss the completeness of the quasi-uniformity of quasi-uniform convergence on function spaces. In particular we observe that the notions of quasi-uniform completeness based on the convergence of several types of stable filters provide satisfactory results in this context.

Notes: Abstract We present an example of a completely regular ordered space that is not strictly completely regular ordered. Furthermore, we note that a completely regular ordered I-space is strictly completely regular ordered provided that it satisfies at least one of the following three conditions: It is locally compact, it is a C-space, it is a topological lattice.

Notes: Abstract Following suggestions of Pumplün and Röhrl we study topologies on totally convex spaces that are generated by families of semi-norms. In particular, we generalize Alaoglu's Theorem by showing that, for any totally convex spaceX, the initial topology on the dual space hom (X, Ô C) for the evaluationse(x) in the pointsx ofX is a compact topology. With the help of topological methods we also obtain a transparent description of the left adjointS of the unitball functorô:Ban 1 →TC. The functorS has been identified before by Pumplün and Röhrl in an algebraic context using many nontrivial arguments and computations.

Notes: Abstract We study some categorical aspects of quasi-uniform spaces (mainly separation and epimorphisms) via closure operators in the sense of Dikranjan, Giuli, and Tholen. In order to exploit better the corresponding properties known for topological spaces we describe the behaviour of closure operators under the lifting along the forgetful functor T from quasi-uniform spaces to topological spaces. By means of appropriate closure operators we compute the epimorphisms of many categories of quasi-uniform spaces defined by means of separation axioms and study the preservation (reflection) of epimorphisms under the functor T.

Notes: Abstract Let X and Y be metrizable spaces. We show that, for a mapping f : X → Y, there exists a quasi-metric ϱ X inducing the topology of X such that f regarded as a mapping from (X, max{ϱ, ϱ−1}) to Y is continuous if and only if f in the original topology of X is a σ-discrete map of Borel class 1. Further, we prove that, for every σ-discrete mapping f: X → Y of Borel class α + 1, there exists a compatible quasi-metric ϱ on X such that f : (X, max{ϱ, ϱ−1}) → Y is of Borel class α. We also investigate a more general situation when the range of the mapping under consideration is not necessarily metrizable. In passing, we obtain some results related to the behaviour of absolutely Borel sets and absolutely analytic spaces with respect to compatible quasi-metrics.
