Experiences utilizing cryosurgery in the treatment of chronic cervicitis and cervical dysplasia are presented. In 95% of patients with chronic cervicitis, the cervix completely healed within 8 weeks after treatment. In the group with cervical atypia, there was no cytologic or tissue evidence of persistent disease in 90 of the 103 women treated. The procedure was performed on an outpatient basis. Occurrence of pain during the procedure was minimal. The most important sequela of the operation was a profuse vaginal discharge. Results demonstrate that cryosurgery is an effective method of treatment for chronic cervicitis and cervical dysplasia.
