Notes: In the literature, there is an astonishingly small amount of information on specific treatment modalities of locally advanced, ulcerated breast cancer. Here we present a case report and a literature review on ulceration in breast cancer. An older, so far untreated woman with complete ulcerative destruction of her right breast was inoperable because of the extent of the tumor. Primary anthracycline-based chemotherapy and hormonal therapy led to major tumor shrinkage with complete ulcer healing, which was maintained for nearly 2 years. There is increasing evidence from the literature that primary chemotherapy may particularly benefit patients with inoperable ulceration, as also illustrated by our case.

Notes: Abstract Multiple myeloma (MM) is a B-cell malignancy originating from pre-switched, follicle center B-lymphocytes which differentiate to plasma cells accumulating in the bone marrow. MM cells are characterized by a profound genetic instability resulting in a complex set of numerical and structural chromosomal abnormalities. Among these abnormalities, translocations involving 14q32, the immunoglobulin heavy-chain locus, are the most frequent aberrations, but translocation partners are remarkably heterogeneous. Chromosome 13q14 may harbor a critical tumor suppressor gene since MM patients with deletion of 13q14 experience short overall survival after conventional-dose and high-dose chemotherapy. Bone marrow stroma cells support growth and survival of MM cells, which in turn influence the bone marrow microenvironment. This is particularly evident by the markedly increased bone marrow vascularization observed in most patients with active MM.

Notes: Abstract Construct3D is a three dimensional geometric construction tool based on the collaborative augmented reality system ‘Studierstube’. Our setup uses a stereoscopic head mounted display (HMD) and the Personal Interaction Panel (PIP) - a two-handed 3D interaction tool that simplifies 3D model interaction. Means of application in mathematics and geometry education at high school as well as university level are being discussed. A pilot study summarizes the strengths and possible extensions of our system. Anecdotal evidence supports our claim that the use of Construct3D is easy to learn and encourages experimentation with geometric constructions.
