Summary In the years 1961, 1963, 1964, 1965, and 1969 samples of surface water had been taken from different locations of the Barents Sea and had been investigated with regard to their contents of Sr 90 and Cs 137. Due to the atomic bomb tests carried out in the years 1961/62, an obvious rise of the concentration of radioactive fission products could be measured in the water until 1964. By 1965, the measured values decreased to about those measured in 1961 and, since that time, show only slight variations.
