Notes:
Conclusion After the events at Chernobyl', specific measures were adopted and continue to be implemented to increase the safety of both operating reactors and those under construction. But safety-related efforts cannot be limited only to the measures already being taken. This is not a temporary campaign, but a continuous process of improving and increasing the reliability and safety of nuclear plants. It will be conducted in parallel with the development of new, more efficient and economical systems. Safety rules and requirements will continually be improved. In this article, the author has not tried to give an exhaustive analysis of the state of affairs in regard to nuclear safety and to propose detailed prescriptions for its improvement. These are only a few considerations on the question. Perhaps they will evoke an answering reaction in the reader of “Atomic Energy,” a wish to share his own thoughts and proposals or to offer a critique of the author. We will only welcome that. We expect that presenting a regular exchange of opinions and discussions on the questions which have been raised in this journal will be of appreciable use and will facilitate progress in the field of nuclear safety.
