Notes: Abstract In experimental asthma in dogs, the major component of the acute bronchoconstrictive response to antigen inhalation appears to involve a vagally mediated reflex. Selective afferent or efferent vagal blockade reversed the bronchoconstriction induced by specific antigens. Unilateral antigen inhalation resulted in bilateral bronchoconstriction. In bronchographic studies using powdered tantalum, we found a similar distribution of bronchoconstriction after antigen inhalation as during electrical stimulation of the vagus nerves.
