    Notizen: The revised Enskog kinetic theory (RET) is used to describe transport in a hard sphere crystal. The connection between the RET and the exact density functional theory (DFT) description of the solid state is established. The RET is used to derive the dissipative linear equations of elasticity. The elastic moduli in these equations are identical to those obtained from equilibrium like DFT. The expressions for the solid state transport coefficients (determining sound absorption and heat conduction in the hard sphere crystal) are new. As for the analogous calculation in the liquid state, the transport coefficients are determined by the (solid state) equilibrium two-particle distribution function at contact.

    Notizen: A variety of dynamical properties are studied in a model complex liquid composed of hard parallel spherocylinders. For this fluid a revised Enskog kinetic theory (RET) is introduced. In the long wavelength and long time limit the RET leads to liquid crystal nematic-like hydrodynamic equations with explicit expressions for all transport coefficients in terms of an assumed known equilibrium two-point distribution function. The transport process of self-diffusion in this fluid is also studied in the Enskog approximation. This model has a nematic to smectic phase transition (N→A) where a one-dimensional translational order occurs. Near this phase transition the RET is shown to lead to a van Hove-like theory of critical dynamics. The critical mode near the N→A transition is analogous to the so-called soft extended heat mode recently discussed for simple fluids. Near the N→A transition the critical singularities in the nematic viscosities are discussed. It is shown that the singularities arise from the same mode coupling mechanism that is responsible for the anomalously slow relaxation of the stress-tensor autocorrelation function in dense simple liquids.

    Notizen: Ordering in the hard hypercube gas model is discussed. An exact application of density functional theory in the limit of high dimensionality leads to the conclusion that an ordering transition to a simple hypercube lattice occurs at a critical density of hypercubes. The transition is continuous. The structure of the theory suggests a similar transition at finite dimensionality. The critical dynamics below the transition are also computed.

    Notizen: Abstract An order parameter description of the Anderson-Mott transition (AMT) is given. We first derive an order parameter field theory for the AMT, and then present a mean-field solution. It is shown that the mean-field critical exponents are exact above the upper critical dimension. Renormalization group methods are then used to show that a random-field like term is generate under renormalization. This leads to similarities between the AMT and random-field magnets, and to an upper critical dimensiond c + =6 for the AMT. Ford〈6, and ε=6−d expansion is used to calculate the critical exponents. To first order in ε they are found to coincide with the exponents for the random-field Ising model. We then discuss a general scaling theory for the AMT. Some well established scaling relations such as Wegner's scaling law, are found to be modified due to random-field effects. New experiments are proposed to test for random-field aspects of the AMT.

    Notizen: Abstract The long time tails of the correlation functions that determine the self-diffusion coefficient and the kinetic parts of the shear viscosity and heat conductivity in a one-component plasma are calculated using a systematic kinetic theory. The results are in agreement with those obtained from the phenomenological mode coupling theory. The formal kinetic theory calculations of previous workers, who obtained incomplete long time tail results, are also discussed.

    Notizen: Abstract A kinetic equation is derived that describes the nonequilibrium quasiparticle distribution function for a dilute, inhomogeneous Bose gas below its λ-point. The derivation is based on a microscopic description of the Bose gas, and is similar to that used to obtain the classical Boltzmann equation and its generalization to higher densities from the Liouville equation. In a subsequent paper the kinetic equation derived here will be used to derive the Landau-Khalatnikov two-fluid equations together with microscopic expressions for the associated transport coefficients.
