    Notes: Abstract A new method for chemically modifying highly oriented pyrolytic graphite based on the catalytic oxidation of the surface with platinum as the catalyst is proposed. The method makes it possible only to modify the outer layer of the crystalline lattice without destroying it. As a result, a great number of “point” defects appear on the outer surface of the crystal, which are uniformly distributed on the surface with high density.
