Notes: Abstract The electron paramegnetic resonance (EPR) of Mn2+ doped into La2−x Sr x CuO4 was used to probe the copper spin relaxation via the bottleneck effect for oxygen isotope (16O and 18O)–substituted samples. It was found that the EPR linewidth is larger for the 18O isotope samples than for the 16O samples. For x = 0.03, the linewidth for the 18O sample is larger than for 16O sample by a factor of 2. The isotope effect is pronounced at low temperatures and decreases with increasing Sr concentration. This effect is quantitatively explained by the Cu2+ S = 1/2 spin relaxation to the lattice via Dzyaloshinski terms coupled linearly to the local Q 4/Q 5 tilting modes of the CuO6 octahedra as proposed by Kochelaev et al. [1] The Q 4/Q 5 modes are coupled sterically to the Q 2 Jahn–Teller modes considered to be relevant for the (bi)-polaron formation and thus for the high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC).

Notes: Abstract The elementary spin excitations in two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnets with spin S=1/2 in a metastable, spatially inhomogeneous state are investigated. The energy spectrum of the excitations, the local order parameter, and the temperature dependence of the spin correlation length are found. It is shown that the results obtained can be used to explain the experimental data on neutron scattering in La2CuO4 at temperatures T〉T N.

Notes: Abstract Electron magnetic relaxation was studied in a two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet (S=1/2) with skyrmeons. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) linewidth (Г⊥) was calculated at temperatures T≤J (J is the nearest-neighbor interaction constant). The magnitude of Г⊥ caused by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is shown to grow as r 0/a with decreasing temperature, whereas the anisotropic symmetric interaction leads to the (r 0/a)3 dependence, where r 0 is the average size of a skyrmeon and a is the lattice parameter. The results obtained agree qualitatively with calculations performed on the basis of a renormalization-group (RG) analysis of the nonlinear σ model at .

Notes: Abstract Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Gd3+, Eu2+, and copper ions has been investigated in the high-Tc superconductor with YBa2Cu3O7−α structure. It has been established that the system is heterogeneous at 0.15≤δ≤0.5 and consists of metallic and dielectric regions. The former arises due to oxygen enrichment while the later due to oxygen deficiency. The integral of exchange interaction between Gd3+ localized moments and conduction electrons Jsf=0.016 eV has been determined from the normal state temperature dependence of Gd3+ EPR linewidth for metallic regions. Tc depression by gadolinium-localized moments for GdBa2Cu3O7−α was estimated to be ΔTc⋍−2K. Anomalies in linewidth temperature dependence upon transition from the normal to the superconducting state have given information about the value and temperature behavior of the superconductor's energy gap. The model, which gives the opportunity to understand some peculiarities of the EPR signal for YBa2Cu3O7−α samples, is proposed in terms of several bottlenecked spinsubsystems: spin-liquid in CuO planes and Cu2+-O− and Cu2+-O2− fragments in CuO chains.

Notes: Abstract The resonant absorption of ultrasound by the nuclei of paramagnetic iron-group ions is treated theoretically for the case in which the nuclei interact with the ultrasound by means of a hyperfine quadrupole interaction. The coefficient of resonant ultrasonic is calculated on the basis of this mechanism. The possible observation of acoustic resonance by means of the Mössbauer effect (with the isotope Fe57) is discussed.

Notes: Abstract The spin-phonon interaction is derived for Cu2+ ions stronglycoupled by the isotropic exchange interaction. It is shown that in a two-dimensionalquantum Heisenberg antiferromagnetic this interaction due to its antisymmetricstructure couples the phonon modes near the wave vectors (±π/a, ±π/a)to the staggered magnetization. A contribution of the spin-phonon interactionto the EPR linewidth is calculated and its temperature dependence compared with othersources of the broadening.
