Notes: Abstract Amplification of a probe field without inversion in a medium of non-degenerate two-level atoms pumped by a circularly polarized optical field in resonance with a 1/2→1/2 atomic transition in the presence of a dc magnetic field orthogonal to the wave vector of the pump field is demonstrated. It is shown that gain without inversion is possible in strong optical and magnetic fields in the case of a pump with a finite spectral width which can be much greater than the natural width of the excited level.

Notes: Abstract Two basic geometric approaches to the modern theory of gauge fields are analyzed and compared. The first approach is an extension of the Kaluza-Klein unified theory of gravity and electromagnetism (1921). The second approach generalizes Cartan's formulation (1925) of Riemannian geometry and GR which now is transformed to fiber bundle theory. The goal of this paper is to show that the above-mentioned geometric approaches to the classical gauge field theory are nonequivalent and lead to different forms of quantum gauge field theory.
