Notes: Abstract Results are presented of a study of the gasdynamic parameters and the geometric characteristics of the mixing zone of axisymmetric jets of gases of differing density (Freon-12, air, and helium) propagating in a parallel air stream, within the limits of the initial segment (0≤x/R≤3–30). Experimental data are presented on the effect of different densities (0. 27 ≤n≤8.2) and velocities (0≤m≤≤1.7) of the gas jet and the parallel stream on the mixing process.

Notes: Abstract An experimental investigation has been made of a mixing layer of flows in which turbulence has been created under conditions when the intensity of the velocity pulsations is fairly low, while the integrated scales of the pulsations and transport coefficients are large compared with the corresponding values in the flows without the generated turbulence. The description of the mixing under such conditions is discussed. It is shown that when the integrated scales of the turbulence in the exterior flow exceed the characteristic dimensions of the mixing layer the external turbulence does not have a significant influence on the averaged parameters in the layer.

Notes: Abstract The results of an experimental investigation of the flow created by a conical jet spreading from a narrow slit around the periphery of a suction intake are described. The reorganization of the jet flow associated with the resulting three-dimensional flow structure is investigated. A flow scheme is proposed.

Notes: Abstract The characteristics have been determined experimentally for the jet flow originating in the vicinity of the shear section of a centrifugal atomizer (up to the sections corresponding to the termination of the reverse flow zone). The distribution has been obtained for the mean velocity, the additive concentration, and the intensities of the turbulent velocity pulsations for different initial swirling.

Notes: Abstract The article gives the results of calculations of non-self-similar flows in turbulent jets. Use is made of the approximation of a boundary layer [1-3]; in the case of a high degree of twisting, when a zone of reverse flow forms in the initial section, the consideration is begun in a cross section corresponding to the end of the above zone. With a numerical solution the flow parameters are determined consecutively in cross sections located downstream from the starting cross section, where they are given by the conditions of the problem. The article gives a generalized Prandtl formula for the turbulent viscosity for the cases of the flows under consideration. The results of calculations carried out using this formula are compared with experimental data. The corresponding experimental constants are determined. An integral theory is proposed describing twisted jet flows with a weak deformation of the profiles of the gas-dynamic parameters.

Notes: Abstract The results are given of an experimental determination of the parameters of jets out of rectangular nozzles. The distributions of the mean velocity and an impurity concentration were measured. The rearrangement of the jet flow associated with the three-dimensional structure of the jet and interaction of the jet and a screen was investigated. A model that describes the occurrence of a pressure difference and curvature of the jet trajectory when it interacts with a screen is proposed.

Notes: Abstract The results are given of a calculation of laminar flow in a channel of square section and the motion of a turbulent jet from a cruciform nozzle in an ambient flow. To calculate the secondary flows, the field of the transverse velocity is decomposed into irrotational and solenoidal components. The results of the calculation of the flow in the channel are compared with the calculations of other authors and experimental data. To calculate the flow in the turbulent jet, a one-parameter turbulence model is used, and the influence of the inhomogeneity of the distribution of the longitudinal component of the velocity on the components of the Reynolds stress tensor is taken into account. The results of calculation of the flow in the jet behind a cruciform nozzle are compared with experimental data.

Notes: Abstract The turbulent velocity pulsation time scales and turbulent diffusion coefficients in airstreams of various types are determined experimentally. The connection between the integral time scales in Eulerian and Lagrangian coordinate systems is found. The validity of various relations for calculating the turbulent diffusion coefficient from the results of the determination of the scales in the Eulerian coordinate system are discussed.
