Stereochemistry of Aliphatic Carbocations, 10. Rearrangements of 3-Methyl-2-butyl CationsThe deamination of (R)-[2-D]-1,2-dimethylpropylamine (5) in acetic acid at 50°C afforded alkenes, cyclopropanes and acetates in ratios very similar to those obtained with the undeuteriated amine. The 1,2 hydride shift leading to the tert amyl cation proceeds with 66% inversion (34% racemization) at the migration terminus, as judged from the optical rotation of [3-D1]-2-methyl-1-butene (15). The formation of [2-D]-3-methyl-2-butanol-acetate (8b) discloses a previously undetected 1,2 methyl shift which was studied in more detail by means of [1-CD3]-1,2-dimethylpropylamine (23). The stereochemistry of the products is best explained by the assumption of „open“ carbocations with insufficient lifetime for conformational equilibration.

Die Desaminierung von (R-[2-D]-1,2-Dimethylpropylamin (5) in Eisessig bei 50°C ergab Alkene, Cyclopropane und Acetate in Mengenverhältnissen, die denen des undeuterierten Amins weitgehend gleichen. Die zum tert-Amylkation führende 1,2-Wasserstoffverschiebung verläuft mit 66% Inversion (34% Racemisierung) am Endpunkt der Umlagerung, wie die optische Drehung des [3-D1]-2-Methyl-1-butens (15) zeigt. Die Bildung von [2-D]-3-Methyl-2-butanol-acetat (8b) macht eine bisher nicht festgestellte 1,2-Methylwanderung deutlich, die mit Hilfe von [1-CD3]-1,2-Dimethylpropylamin (23) näher untersucht wurde. Die Stereochemie der Produkte wird am besten erklärt durch die Annahme „offener“ Carbokationen, deren Lebensdauer zu einer vollständigen Äquilibrierung der Konformeren nicht ausreicht.
