Notes: Conclusions Modification of polycaproamide fibres with ethoxylated amines increases free volume and the combinatorial entropy of the polymer. The indicated changes in fibre structure cause an increase in their hygroscopicity.

Notes: Conclusions -- The change in basic molecular and certain specific characteristics of PCA during the process of heat-treating it in the presence of air has been studied. -- It has been shown that the degree of thermo-oxidative degradation of PCA may be judged from the change in molecular weight characteristics in combination with the results of change in the Huggins constant, the relative chemical nonuniformity, the content of carbonyl compounds, and the integral UV-absorption. -- The inhibiting action of a Bulgarian copper thermostabilizer and of N-1 thermostabilizer on the thermo-oxidative degradation of PCA has been evaluated.

Notes: Conclusions The possibility of using diethylenetriamine which has been ethoxylated to various degrees to give antistatic properties to PCA has been discussed; the antistatic effect is expressed most strongly in the case of DETA 60. It has been found that the antistatics studied exert a regulating action on the degree of polymerization of the ε-caprolactam, displayed in a decrease in the molecular weight of the PCA and an increase in the LMC content of the polymer. This brought about by the fact that the products examined contain, even though in slight amounts, free amino groups. DETA 100 exerts the weakest action. Under otherwise equal conditions in PCA synthesis, the introduction of DETA increase the rate of polymerization in the initial stage of the process. In view of the effects described, it is advisable, in preparing PCA fibres, to use products which contain 60 to 80 moles of ethylene oxide.

Notes: Abstract Addition of Na+ to the K+-loadedVibrio alginolyticus cells, creating a 250-fold Na+ gradient, is shown to induce a transient increase in the intracellular ATP concentration, which is abolished by the Na+/H+ antiporter, monensin. The ΔpNa-supported ATP synthesis requires an additional driving force supplied by endogenous respiration or, alternatively, by a K+ gradient (high [K+] inside). In the former case, ATP formation is resistant to the protonophorous uncoupler. Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and diethylstilbestrol, but not vanadate, completely inhibit Na+ pulse-induced ATP formation. The data agree with the assumption that Na+-ATP-synthase is involved in oxidative phosphorylation inV. alginolyticus. Interrelation of H+ and Na+ cycles in bacteria is discussed.

Notes: Conclusions Yarns with a high antistatic effect, which is stable to wet treatments, have been obtained by introducing product DETA80 into polycaproamide. DETA80 antistat causes changes in the supermolecular structure of yarns which lead to a reduction in strength and deformation properties of the yarns and to an increase in their ability to be dyed. The antistats do not exert an effect on the light-resistance of the yarns, nor on resistance of the color to set treatment.
