Conclusions 1. IR and Raman spectra have been obtained for C- and B-mercurated carboranes of the type (Cb)2Hg and CbHgX, where Cb is o-, m-, or p-C2B10H11, and X=Cl, Br, or I. The Hg-carborane stretching vibrations are located in the region 130–230 cm−1. Strong splittings of the low-frequency lines and bands are observed. 2. Alternative prohibition is observed in the region ofΝHg-Cb vibrations for mercury biscarboranyls, i.e., the molecules have centrosymmetric structure. 3. It has been shown by means of model calculations that for CbHgX molecules (X=Br, I) the Hg-Cb and Hg-H stretching vibrations are strongly mixed in form.
