    Notes: Summary A thermostable polymer, called sulfur lignin, has been obtained when modifying lignin by reactions with elemental sulfur at elevated temperatures. Sulfur linkages are formed between the phenylpropane units of lignin in these reactions. The conductivity of polymers which have a conjugated structure can be increased by doping with electron acceptors or donors. The conductivity of sulfur lignin has been measured after doping with various dopants and from the results it is concluded that the doped sulfur lignin has the properties off a semi conductive polymer.

    Description / Table of Contents: In dieser Arbeit wurden rheologische Parameter mit solchen molekularen Parametern wie verschiedenen Molekulargewichten und Langkettenverzweigungen in Hochdruckpolyäthylen korreliert. Die Fließmessungen wurden mit einem Instron Rheometer und die dynamischen Messungen mit einem Balancerheometer gemessen. Die Molekulargewichtsbestimmungen wurden mit einem Gelchromatographen, einem Streulichtapparat und durch Viskositätsmessungen durchgeführt. Eine Korrelationsmatrix wurde für 34 gemessene Größen berechnet. Die Meßergebnisse zeigten gute Übereinstimmung besonders zwischen Langkettenverzweigungsparameter, Quellungsgeschwindigkeit und optischen Eigenschaften des Polymeren. Die Langkettenverzweigungseigenschaften können auch aus dynamischen Viskositätsmessungen bei kleinen Frequenzen vorausgesagt werden.
    Notes: The objective of this work was to correlate rheological parameters with basic molecular parameters such as different molecular weights and level of long-chain branching (LCB) in low density polyethylene. LCB is known to exert a considerable influence on resin's melt flow characteristics which have been useful in predicting resin end-use properties (especially processability). In the scope of the work steady flow measurements were done with an Instron Rheometer and dynamic oscillatory measurements using a balance rheometer. The molecular weight data were obtained using gel permeation chromatography, light scattering technique, and solution viscosimetry. A correlation matrix was calculated for 34 measured properties. The results showed that good correlations may be obtained especially between LCB-parameters, die swell and optical properties of the polymer. The LCB properties may also be quite correctly predicted from dynamic viscosity data at low frequencies.

    Description / Table of Contents: Der Bildungsprozeß von Phenol/Formaldehyd- und Guajacol/Formaldehyd-Harzen wurde mit Hilfe der IR-Spektroskopie studiert. Es wurde gezeigt, daß während der Kondensationsreaktion Monosubstitution und Disubstitution zunehmen und ein Maximum beim M̄n-Wert von 250 erreichen. Zunehmende 2,4,6-Substitution wurde bei höheren Molekulargewichten beobachtet. In den Guajacolharzen zeigen alle Substitutionstypen ein Maximum beim M̄n-Wert von 330-350.
    Notes: The process of novolak-type of phenol-formaldehyde and guaiacol-formaldehyde resins was studied by infrared spectroscopy. It was shown that in phenol-formaldehyde resins monosubstitution and disubstitution increases in the condensation reaction reaching a maximum with M̄n value of 250. The increase of 2,4,6-substitution was observed at higher molecular weights. In the guaiacol resins all substituent groups indicate a maximum absorbance at M̄n value of 330-350.

    Description / Table of Contents: Eine Reihe von Phenol/Formaldehyde-Resol-Harzen wurde mit Hilfe der IR-Spektroskopie und der DSC-Methode (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) untersucht. Das Mol-Verhältinis zwischen Phenol und Formaldehyd wurde auf der Basis des Absorptionsverhältnisses D1010/D1610 bestimmt. Die Unterschiede zwischen der Reaktivität von verschiedenen Harzen wurden mit Hilfe von molaren Phenol-Formaldehyd-Verhältnissen, der Reaktionswärme und der Gelierungszeit festgestelt.
    Notes: A series of resol-type phenol-formaldehyde resins was investigated by infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. The molar ratio of phenol to formaldehyde was determined from the absorbance ratio D1010/D1610. Differences between the reactivities of resins were confirmed by the molar phenol to formaldehyde ratio, heat of reaction and gelation time.

    Description / Table of Contents: Polythiophenylene und Polyoxythiophenylene wurden aus aromatischen Dithiolen und 1,4-Dichlorbenzol hergestellt. Die erhaltenen Polymeren wurden chloriert, sulfochloriert und nitriert. Die Chlorierung gelingt gut bei den Polythiophenylenen, schlechter dagegen bei Polyoxythiophenylenen. Das Nitrieren geht nur beim Polyoxy-thiophenylen, und die Sulfochlorierung verläuft bei beiden Polymeren nur schwach. Die erhaltenen Produkte wurden durch IR-Spektroskopie, Differential Scanning Calorimetrie und Elementaranalyse untersucht.
    Notes: Polythiophenylenes and polyoxythiophenylenes were prepared from aromatic dithiols and 1,4-dichlorobenzene. The polymers were chlorinated, sulphochlorinated and nitrated. The chlorination was successful for polythiophenylenes and to a lesser extent for polyoxythiophenylenes. The nitration succeeded for polyoxythiophenylenes only and the sulphochlorination occurred only slightly for both polymers. The products were investigated by IR-spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and elemental analysis.

Es wurde gezeigt, daß das Verhältnis zwischen Phenol und Formaldehyd, der Neutralisationsgrad, die Menge des Härters und die Dichte einen Einfluß auf die Substitution des Phenolrings ausüben. Die Abhängigkeit der Dichte auf die Absorption der 2,4- und 2,4,6-Substitution wurde ermittelt.
    Notes: The chemical composition of resol type phenol-formaldehyde foams was studied by infrared spectroscopy. It was shown that variables such as phenol-formaldehyde ratio, degree of neutralization, amount of hardener, and density affect the substitution of phenolic rings. The dependence of density on the absorbances of 2,4- and 2,4,6-substitution was established.

    Notes: A series of resol-type phenol-formaldehyde resins with varying phenol/formaldehyde (P/F) molar ratio were investigated by infrared spectroscopy. The infrared spectroscopic data suggest that absorbance ratio of D2920, D1610, D1150, D1010, and D760 based on 1 590 cm-1 band can be used for the determination of phenol/formaldehyde molar ratio of the resins.

    Notes: The heats of fusion of low-density polyethylene and chlorinated polyethylenes of varying chlorine content have been investigated by differential scanning colorimetry (DSC). Linear correlations are found between the chlorine content and the apparent heat of fusion, crystallinity, and the maximum specific heat measured in the temperature range 90-120°C. The effect of heat treatment on crystallinity is shown to be strongly dependent on the chlorine content of the polymers.

    Description / Table of Contents: Die Chelatbildung von Poly(O-isophthaloylisophthalamidoxim) (1) mit Kupfer(II)-Ionen wurde unter verschiedenen Bedingungen und mit verschiedenen Kupfer(II)-Verbindungen untersucht. Der Einfluß der Chelatisierungsbedingungen auf die Metallkonzentration der Chelat-Polymeren wurde geprüft. Alle Polymere wurden durch IR Spektrum, Löslichkeit, Thermoanalyse und Röntgen-Diffraktion charakterisiert. Es wurde gefunden, daß die Kupfer(II)-Chelate von 1 thermisch weniger stabil sind als das cyclisierte Prepolymer. Ein lösliches Chelat-Polymer wurde durch Reaktion des polymeren Liganden mit dem o-Phenylendiamin-Kupfer(II)-Komplex hergestellt.
    Notes: The chelation of poly(O-isophthaloylisophthalamide oxime) (1) with copper(II) ions was carried out under various conditions and with different copper(II) compounds. The effect of the chelation conditions on the metal content of the chelated polymer was studied. All polymers were characterized by IR spectra, solubilities, thermal analysis, and X-ray diffraction. It was found that the copper(II) chelates of 1 are thermally less stable than the cyclized prepolymer. A soluble chelate polymer was obtained by the reaction of the polymeric ligand with the o-phenylenediamine-copper(II) complex.
