Raman Studies on Titanium Complex Compounds in Chloride MeltsWe have characterized by Raman spectroscopy some titanium compounds which are formed during the electrolysis of TiCl4 in chloride melts. We have first studied the pure chlorides and then their solutions in various baths. It is shown that in BaCl2—KCl—LiCl eutectic at 450°C the Ti(IV) solutions give the compound K2TiCl6 and those of Ti(III) the compound K3Ticl6. On the other hand solutions of Ti(III) in CsCl—LiCl produce another complex. This explains the different electrochemical behaviour in these two baths.

Durch Ramanspektroskopie wurden verschieden Titanverbindungen untersucht, die sich während der Elektrolyse von TiCl4 in Chloridschmelzen bilden. Wir haben zuerst die reinen Titanchloride und dann ihre Lösungen in verschiedenen Bädern untersucht. Im BaCl2KClLiCl-Eutektikum bei 450°C bildet TiIV die Verbindung K2TiCl6 und TiIII die Verbindung K3TiCl6. Im Gegensatz dazu bildet TiIII in CsCl—LiCl-Schmelzen eine ander Verbindung. Dies erklärt den deutlichen Unterschied in dem elektrochemischen Verhalten des TiIII in diesen zwei Bädern.
