Notes: The results of the investigation of ion emission from a Ag target irradiated with high-intensity (up to 5×1016 W/cm2) 1 ps laser pulse are presented. It is shown that using a picosecond subjoule laser a production of intense streams of highly charged (charge state z〉20), high-energy (up to hundreds of kilo-electron-volts) Ag ions is possible. Some properties of the ion streams are discussed. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: In laser-scanning measurement of cylindrical objects extremely complex interferingsignals occur. They are due to superimposition of: reflected, unobstructed and scattered light. Theproportions between these components vary in time and also the total intensity distribution changes. The considerations applying Fraunhofer theory are static and fragmentary, and may be concludedthat the existing solutions for diffraction of 3D bodies do not fit to engineering applications.Having the above in view, the close analysis of detector signal was carried out. The obtaineddifferential intensity characteristics allow to determine the important metrological qualities ofdiffraction field

Notes: Summary For the geometrically nonlinear first approximation theory of elastic shells three energy-consistent large rotation shell variants are constructed. The governing shell equations are derived as Euler-Lagrange equations of an associated variational principle of stationary total potential energy. The numerical applicability is considered for a highly nonlinear shell problem. To incorporate the presented theories into the frame of shell models published in the literature a comparative analysis is carried out for a large number of shell equations.

Notes: Summary A new theory is presented for shells of revolution undergoing axisymmetric arbitrarily large strain deformations. The material of the shell is assumed to be hyperelastic incompressible. The formulated theory is applied to analyse the flexural buckling of circular plates under uniform radial loads.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary In measurements of water movement in the fields of hydrology and hydrogeology based upon radioactive tracer techniques, there is a need for radioisotopes having a short half-life. Existing techniques involving the transport of radioactive isotopes are generally unsatisfactory for field measurements. The authors of this paper propose to overcome these difficulties by the generation at the measuring sites of radioisotopes having a half-life in the order of a few minutes to a few hours. The construction and working technology of radioisotope generators is presented, and examples are given of radioisotopes which can be used in hydrological and hydrogeological field measurements. Additional measurement possibilities created by the application of radioisotope generators are also discussed. Examples of generator application to the automatic measurement of flow intensity are presented.
