Summary The epidemiological, clinical and microbiological data, obtained during a spring-summer outbreak of epidemic diarrhea in Italy, are given with some details. The disease was generally mild in character. From samples of stool and gargling, taken from both patients and healthy contacts, several strains of Coxsackie B 3 virus were isolated. The possible etiological role of this enterovirus as the cause of the outbreak is discussed.
