    Notes: The title compound, (1,2-di-η5-cyclopentadienyl-1,2-dimethyl-trans-1,2-diphenylethane)(1,2-dimethoxyethane)calcium, trans-Ph2(CH3)2C2(η5-C5H4)2Ca(DME) or [Ca(C26H24)(C4H10O2)], was synthesized by reductively coupling 6,6-methylphenylfulvene with activated calcium in the presence of dimethoxyethane (DME). The trans isomer was isolated by fractional crystallization. The Ca atom is four-coordinate and is η5-bonded to both cyclopentadienyl rings [Ca—Cp(centroid) distance = 2.381 (3) Å] and the O atoms of the coordinated solvent chelate ligand [Ca—O = 2.350 (2) and 2.404 (2) Å].

    Notes: Abstract cis-[(1,2-diphenyl-1,2-dicyclopentadienyl)ethanediyl]bis(tetrahydrofuran)calcium is prepared by reductively coupling phenylfulvene with activated calcium to produce cis and trans isomers which can be separately crystallized. The cis isomer crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c. The cell parameters are: a = 9.7006(1), b = 18.9839(1), c = 14.2018(2) Å, β = 91.263(1)°, V = 2614.70(5) Å3, D calc = 1.252 mg/m3, and Z = 4. Spectroscopic and crystallographic data for the cis-isomer are presented and discussed.
