Notes:
The implantation of surfaces by energetic gaseous ions often results in the formation of molecular complexes which in turn can be adsorbed on the solid surface. Characterization of such complexes is of concern to surface scientists. Conventional characterization techniques involving low-energy electron beams operate under ultrahigh-vacuum condition and cause dislodging and desorption of these complexes. We have undertaken the characterization of the implanted surfaces under ambient conditions by the technique of unenhanced surface Raman scattering (USRS).
