Notes:
The degree of fragmentation induced during field desorption of polyethylene glycol increases as the potential between emitter and cathode is raised. This fragmentation is explained as field dissociation. The shape of the envelope of pseudomolecular ion peaks depends upon temperature but not upon field. It is suggested that the desorption of pseudomolecular ions proceeds over barriers whose heights are dependent upon the electric field strength.
