    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Si riporta una breve rassegna degli studi preliminari sulle proprietà ottiche delle mesofasi liotropiche. Si presentano nuovi risultati delle misure degli indici di rifrazione per varie fasi di un sistema ternario. Particolare risaltoè dato alle proprietà ottiche delle diverse mesofasi liotropiche di tipo nematico. Infine una breve rassegna è dedicata agli effetti ottici dovuti all'applicazione di campi esterni come il campo magnetico, quello elettrico e quello meccanico.
    Abstract: Резюме Предлагается краткий обзор проведенных исследований оптических свойств лиотропных мезофаз. Приводятся новые результаты измерений показа телей преломления в различных фазах трехкомпонентной системы. Особое внимание уделяется оптическим свойствам различных лиотропных нематических мезофаз. В заключение обсуждаются оптические эффекты, связанные с внешними полями: магнитными, электрическими и механическими.
    Notes: Summary A brief review of early studies of optical properties of lyotropic mesophases is presented. New results about refractive-index measurements in various phases of a ternary system are shown. Emphasis is given to the optical properties of the different lyotropic nematic mesophases. Finally a short review is then devoted to the optical effects of external applied fields such as magnetic, electric and mechanical ones.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto L'influenza dell'energia di ancoraggio sul campo di soglia per la transizione di Fréedericksz è analizzata. Considerando un semplice esempio mostriamo che il metodo delle funzioni di prova dà il corretto campo di soglia. L'importanza del metodo da un punto di vista didattico è sottolineata. Una espressione per il campo di soglia piú semplice di quello dedotto da Rapini-Papoular è riportata. Infine la presenza del termine elastico del tipo superficiek 13 è considerato. Noi mostramo che in questo caso la funzione minimizzante l'energia totale del nematico è discontinua, e la discontinuità di superficie è determinata.
    Abstract: Резюме Анализируется влияние знергии «закрепления» на критическое поле для перехода фридерикса. Рассматривая простой пример, мы показываем, что метод пробных функций дает правильное пороговое поле. Отмечается ваЗность зтого метода с педагогической точки зрения. Мы такЗе выводим выраЗение для порогового поля проще, чем было предлоЗено Рапини-Папуларом. Рассматривается наличие членаk 13. Мы показываем, что в зтом случае функция, минимизирующая полную свободную знергию нематика, является разрывной. Определяется поверхностный разрыв.
    Notes: Summary The influence of the anchoring energy on the critical field for Fréedericsz transition is analysed. By considering a simple example we show that the method of the trial functions gives the correct threshold field. The importance from a pedagological point of view of this method is underlined. We deduce also an expression for the threshold field simpler than that proposed by Rapini-Papoular. Finally the presence of thek 13 term is considered. We show that in this case the function minimizing the nematic total free energy is discontinous and the surface discontinuity is determined.
