Summary 1. in the reaction of 1,1,3-tri-(β-chloroethoxy)propane with two moles of sodium methylate, two atoms of chlorine are replaced by methoxy groups, forming 1,1-di-(β-methoxyethoxy)-3-(β-chloroethoxy)propane. 2. The reaction of 1,1,3-tri-(β-chloroethoxy)propane with alcoholates of n-butyl and tert-butyl alcohols leads to splitting out of two molecules of HCl and the production of 1,1-divinyloxy-3-(β-chloroethoxy)propane. Under the action of excess sodium methylate on 1,1,3-tri-(β-chloroethoxy)propane, two products are formed: 1,1,3-tri-(methoxyethoxy) propane and the 1,1-dimethoxyethyl acetal of acrolein.
