    Notes: The morphologies of several styrene–isoprene miktoarm star copolymers have been examined by small angle x-ray scattering and electron microscopy. Three of these polymers were of the three-armed A2B type, and six were four-armed A3B miktoarms. The ordered microphase-separated morphologies displayed by these polymers were seen to be highly dependent on the architecture of the chains, and were quite different from those that occur in the corresponding linear block copolymers. These results can be quite well explained by a theory of Milner which is based on the bending energy of the microphase interface and the ability of the chains to stretch away from the interface between the microphases. We speculate that the small differences between the observations and theoretical predictions are due to the effects of the compression of chains in small gaps between adjacent domains. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Summary The effect of methallibure (ICI 33,828) on the pituitary-gonad and the pituitary-thyroid axes of the Indian garden lizard, Calotes versicolor was studied. Following administration of methallibure B2 (FSH) and B3 (ICSH) cells of the pars distalis exhibited significant alterations with concomitant changes in the seminiferous tubules, and in the interstitial cells and epididymis respectively. B1 (TSH) cells exhibited conspicuous hypertrophy and degranulation which was reflected in dramatic changes in thyroid morphology. The caudally localized acidophilic A1 (PRL) cells also showed hypertrophy, hyperplasia and intense granulation. The rostrally located A2 (STH) acidophils and the B4 (ACTH) cells were unaffected by the treatment. The possible mode of action of this drug is discussed in the light of available literature.

    Notes: Abstract Darcy's law is inadequate for describing high-velocity gas flow in porous media, which occurs in the near well-bore region of high capacity gas and condensate reservoirs. This study is directed at understanding the non-Darcy flow behavior. A pore-level network model has been developed to describe high velocity flow. The inputs to the model are pore size distributions and network coordination numbers. The outputs are permeability, non-Darcy coefficient, tortuousity and porosity. The additional pressure gradient term is found to be proportional to the square of the velocity in accordance with the Forchheimer's equation. The correlation between the non-Darcy coefficient and other flow properties (the permeability, the porosity and the tortuousity) is found to depend on the morphological parameters being changed. General correlations are derived between these flow properties.
