Notizen: In the Wendelstein 7-AS stellarator (W7-AS) [Plasma Phys. Controlled Fusion 33, 1591 (1991)], current-voltage characteristics of the Langmuir probe at sweep frequencies in the range 400 kHz to 1 MHz were measured and it was found that the mean and fluctuation values of the ion saturation current, floating potential, and electron temperature were independent of the sweep frequency. A radial scan in the vicinity of the velocity shear layer was performed. The simultaneous sweeping of 3 probe tips showed a statistically significant spatial coherence of the fluctuations in the poloidal direction and a decrease in spatial coherence of the fluctuations with increasing tip separation could be demonstrated. The observation of a change in the propagation direction of fluctuations as the shear layer was crossed and a calculation of the transport spectrum show that the swept probe method is capable of reproducing known results. Apparent temperature fluctuations, due to variations of density and potential during a sweep, are shown by simulations to be only of importance at frequencies above half the Nyquist frequency.

Notizen: The Wendelstein 7-X experiment is a concept test for properties of reactor relevant plasmas in advanced stellarators. Prominent features include a modular superconducting coil assembly, a fivefold toroidal symmetry, and a helical magnetic axis. Due to the optimization process, W7-X is characterized by a vacuum magnetic field configuration with smooth magnetic surfaces, improved equilibrium properties with a weak dependence of rotational transform and shear on the plasma pressure β, good magneto-hydrodynamic stability properties due to magnetic well stabilization, reduced neoclassical transport losses and negligible bootstrap current in the long mean-free-path regime, good collisionless α-particle confinement in an equivalent reactor, and, as a technical aspect, good feasibility of the superconducting modular coils. W7-X will be heated by continuous electron cyclotron resonance heating and pulsed neutral beam injection and ion cyclotron resonance heating. The envisaged parameters are Te≤10 keV, Ti≤6 keV central densities ≤3×1020 m−3 with an averaged 〈β〉≤5%. Despite the complicated geometrical structure, all basic diagnostics are compatible with W7-X. Generally, diagnostic methods and applications in a stellarator are not different from those in tokamaks. However, special efforts are being made to equip the experiment with those diagnostics necessary to measure the quantities directly related with the optimization of the machine: the verification of the predicted magnetic topology and characterization of the configuration throughout the entire parameter range, the identification of equilibrium and stability, and the determination of the confinement properties. The article describes the strategy developed which assures that the detailed measurement needs of the W7-X experimental program can be met. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Summary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a gamma DNA herpes virus which is thought to play a part in the pathogenesis of some non-Hodgkin's lymphomas in individuals with or without immunodeficiency. We investigated 16 lymph nodal and 12 cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCLs) (Ki-1 +), all of which were in patients without immunodeficiency, for the presence of EBV genomes. The highly sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique was employed for detection of viral DNA in extracts from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections. In addition, we performed radioactive and non-radioactive in situ hybridization (ISH) for localization of EBV at the single cell level. EBV-DNA was demonstrated by PCR in five cases of nodal ALCLs (31 %). All cutaneous ALCLs were negative. EBV-encoded small nuclear RNAs (EBERs) could be identified by ISH in the tumour cells of one of the five EBV-DNA-positive patients. Our results further support the concept that EBV may be involved in the development of a proportion of nodal ALCLs, hut not in cutaneous ALCLs.

Notizen: Abstract The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genome has recently been identified in Hodgkin's disease (HD) and nodal non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL). In order to elucidate the possible aetiopathogenetic role of EBV in benign and malignant lymphoproliferative disorders we investigated skin specimens from 24 patients with a primary cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders (10 T-cell lymphomas 6 B-cell lymphomas and 8 pseudolymphomas) and from 22 normal individuals for the presence of EBV DNA using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique and in situ hybridization (ISH) on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections. EBV DNA was identified by PCR in one of two cases of mycosis fungoides, in one of seven cases of pleomorphic T-cell lymphomas, in one case of centro-blastic (CB) lymphoma of six B-cell lymphomas, and in three of eight pseudolymphomas. The EBV genome was also found in 2 of 22 specimens of normal skin. The small EBV-encoded nuclear RNAs, EBERs, were not detected in any PCR-positive sample by ISH. Based on our PCR and ISH findings, EBV does not seem to play a significant role in the development of cutaneous lymphomas.
