Notes: An application of photogrammetry in the measurement of palatal surface area is described. Notes: This paper describes work carried out jointly by the British Ship Research Association and the author to assess the value of photogrammetry in acquiring quality control measurements on large steel structures in the shipbuilding industry. In particular, the feasibility of using photogrammetry to resolve one of the problems of joining half ships afloat (that is the dimensional equivalence of the mating faces) is investigated.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉Résumé On décrit le travail mené conjointement par la British Ship Research Association et l'auteur pour tester la valeur des méthodes photogrammétriques dans le contrôle de précision de grandes structures d'acier (industrie navale). En particulier on a cherché dans quelles mesure on pouvait utiliser la photogrammétrie pour vérifier la conformité de piéces devant entrer en jonction.〈section xml:id="abs1-3"〉〈title type="main"〉Zusammenfassung Im Artikel werden die gemeinsam vom Autor und der British Ship Research Association durchgeführten Untersuchungen zwecks Eignung der Photogrammetrie bei Gütekontrollen grosser Stahlkonstruktionen im Schiffbau beschrieben. Insbesondere wurde die Anwendungsmöglichkeit der Photogrammetrie bei der Lösung einiger der beim Verbinden schwimmender halber Schiffe auftretenden Probleme untersucht (um die Grössenordnung der Aufnahmeobjekte zu veranschaulichen).

Notes: A scholarly account of the formative discussions, the founding and the first 20 years of the Photogrammetric Society was published in 1971 and republished in 1974. This present review concentrates on the latter years of the life of the Photogrammetric Society prior to its merger with the Remote Sensing Society in 2001.The authors joined the Photogrammetric Society in 1960 and were conspicuous in its affairs for many years. Although both occupied the Society's presidential chair, they also fulfilled several other roles in its efficient management. Atkinson's first contribution to the Photogrammetric Record was published in 1968 and Newton's in 1971.

On se focalise dans cet article sur les dernières années d'activité de la “Photogrammetric Society” qui aboutirent à sa fusion avec la “Remote Sensing Society” en 2001.Les deux auteurs adhérèrent à la “Photogrammetric Society” en 1960 et y furent d‘éminents animateurs pendant de nombreuses années. Tous deux occupèrent le poste de président de cette Association mais remplirent égulement plusieurs autres fonctions qui contribuèrent à une gestion efficace. La première intervention d'Atkinson dans le Photogrummetric Record remonte à 1968, et celle de Newton à 1971.〈section xml:id="abs1-3"〉〈title type="main"〉ZusummenfussungEine wissenschaftliche Abhandlung über die Diskussionen zur Gründung, die Gründung selbst und die ersten 20 Jahre der Photogrammetrischen Gesellschaft wurde in 1971 publiziert und in 1974 wiederholt. Dieser aktulle Rückblick konzentriert sich auf die darauffolgenden Jahre der Photogrammetrischen Gesellschaft bis hin zur Vereinigung mit der Gesellschaft für Fernerkundung in Jahre 2001.Die Autoren wurden 1960 Mitglieder in der Photogrammetrischen Gesellschaft und trugen viele Jahre massgeblich zu deren Aktivitäsidenten der Gesellschaft auch verschiedene andere Aufgaben im Management wahrgenommen. Der erste Beitrag von Atkinson im Photogrammetric Record erschien 1968, der erste von Newton in 1971.

Notes: This paper discusses the use of near vertical aerial photographs archived onto Kodak Photo CD in the production of a digital elevation model of the Isle of May, Scotland. Control for the survey was obtained using differential GPS receivers and the photogrammetric processing was carried out using low cost PC hardware and software. The elevation model is being used in a GIS to enable the spatial analysis of the island's seal population.

Notes: This paper outlines a series of tests undertaken to determine the repeatability of, and the distortions introduced in, the process of converting conventional images into digital form using Kodak Photo Compact Disk (Photo CD). Photo CD was introduced by Kodak in the early 1990s and, if proved to give stable, high quality images, could be a low cost, convenient alternative to other scanning systems. The images could then be used in photogrammetry for a variety of applications from simple cataloguing of images to data for digital systems to produce sub-pixel measurements.

Notes: The XIVth International Congress of the International Society for Photogrammetry was held at the Congress Centrum Hamburg from 13th to 25th July, 1980. Reports on the work of the seven technical commissions of ISP and on the associated commercial exhibition were given to a meeting of the Photogrammetric Society on 28th October, 1980.〈section xml:id="abs1-2"〉〈title type="main"〉Résumé Le 14ème congrès de la SIP a eu lieu au centre des congrès de Hambourg du 13 au 25 juillet 1980. Une journée de compte rendu devant la Photogrammetric Society s'est tenue le 28 octobre 1980.〈section xml:id="abs1-3"〉〈title type="main"〉Zusammenfassung Vom 13. bis 25. Juli 1980 fand der XIV. Internationale Kongress der ISP im Congress Centrum Hamburg statt. Berichte über die Arbeit der 7 technischen Kommissionen der ISP und der mit dem Kongress verbundenen kommerziellen A ustellung wurden anlässlich einer Zusammenkunft der Photogrammetric Society am 28.10.1980 gegeben.
