Notes: This paper discusses the results of Australian case studies illustrating the key issues that need to be addressed for accounting information quality management. In previous studies from the existing literature, the factors that may impact on information quality have been summarized. In this paper, a model for key issues that impact on accounting quality was proposed based on the literature. The case study results were then used to discuss the key components of the research model.

Notes: A principal participant in developing computer-based information systems is the systems analyst. A wide range of skills and knowledge requirements seems to be necessary to be a systems analyst. To date, few studies have attempted to identify the specific skills that analysts indicate are critical to their success during the systems development life-cycle process. Identifies and investigates the characteristics of a successful systems analyst's domain and knowledge base. Specifically, groups domain knowledge into four major categories: technical skills, systems skills, managerial skills, and business skills. From within each category, analysts indicated which skills they perceived to be of importance to perform their job functions as systems analysts successfully. The results help identify the educational and training requirements for future systems analysts that need to be in place for both academic and corporate instructional programmes.

Notes: Data quality is a critical issue during the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Data quality problems can have a significant impact on an organisation's information system. Therefore, it is essential to understand data quality issues to ensure success in implementing ERP systems. This paper uses SAP as an example of an ERP system and describes a study, which explores data quality problems with existing systems, and identifies critical success factors that impact data quality. The study resulted in the development of a framework for understanding data quality issues in implementing an ERP, and application of this framework in a case study in two large Australian organisations. The findings of the study suggest that the importance of data quality needs to be widely understood in implementing an ERP, as well as providing recommendations that may be useful to practitioners.

Notes: Software technology designed to provide managers with thecapability to access internal and external information that is relevantto decision making and other managerial responsibilities is referred toas executive support systems. Reports the findings of a study conductedamong managers in major US corporations regarding the use of executivesupport systems including specific products, features, and the strategicimpact of using this technology. In addition, interviews were conductedamong executive support systems commercial software vendors and dataobtained from these interviews are presented in tabular form. Finally, discusses the future of the utilization of executive support systems forstrategic advantage.

Notes: . In this study, it is argued the underemployment is both affected by and affects the labor-force participation rate (LFPR) and the level of service employment. Interestingly, the analysis reveals that service employment lowers the LFPR and raises underemployment. In turn, underemployment increases the LFPR as more secondary workers are pushed into the labor market in an effort to support their households. Thus, secondary workers are not pulled into the labor market by the availability of service jobs, but are rather pushed into these jobs by the condition of underemployment that is brought on by the growing concentration of low-paying service jobs.

Notes: Summary. The association of premature rupture of the membranes (PROM) and ascending infection was investigated in 15 women. Bacteriological, histological and immunofluorescence methods were used to study infection at various levels in the birth canal. In most of the women the membranes as well as the placentae showed heavy bacterial invasion. Bacterial distribution within the membranes showed a choriodecidual preponderance. Ascending infection appears to follow the choriodecidual route and may be a primary pathogenetic event in many instances of PROM. The anaerobe Bacteroides fragilis, which is very infrequently isolated in normal pregnant women, was found in five out of 15 women. Two infants had congenital pneumonia caused by group B streptococci and Haemophilus influenzae respectively. The neonatal outcome with PROM may be influenced by the efficiency of the individual defence mechanisms including the antimicrobial capacity of amniotic fluid.

Notes: Defect formation in compound semiconductors such as GaAs under ion irradiation is not as well understood as in Si and Ge. We show how a combination of ion range calculations and molecular dynamics computer simulations can be used to predict the atomic-level damage structures produced by MeV ions. The results show that the majority of damage produced in GaAs both by low-energy self-recoils and 6 MeV He ions is in clusters, and that a clear majority of the isolated defects are interstitials. Implications of the results for suggested applications are also discussed. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.
