Notes:
Abstract A simple spectrophotometric method is described for the determination of small amounts of free naphthols in 1-naphthyl-, 2-naphthyl-, 6-bromo-2-naphthyl- and some naphthyl-AS-phosphates, sulphates and carboxylates. The method is based on coupling free naphthol with 3,3′-dimethoxydiphenyl-4,4′-bis-diazonium-fluoroborate (Fast Blue B) to corresponding bis-azodyes stabilized in aqueous solutions by means of polyvinyl alcohol. Optimum reaction conditions preventing ester hydrolysis were estimated. It is possible to determine 5×10−3% of free naphthol in naphthyl esters.
