Notes: [Auszug] EXPERIMENTS have recently been described1 showing that at frequencies of 2,800 Mc./sec. and 9,800 Mc./sec. the breakdown of air takes place at stresses some 30 per cent lower than the breakdown values for steady voltages, for gaps of a few millimetres. In order to extend the ...

Notes: [Auszug] The gas under examination was confined in a glass vessel inside a cylindrical resonator energized by repeated 1-jzsec. pulses at a frequency of 10,000 Me./sec. In the resonator, the electric component E of the field pattern set up consisted of a closed ring of electric force in a plane ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE use of inductively coupled ratio arms in a bridge energized by square waves has been studied in these Laboratories, with particular reference to the analysis of condenser-resistance combinations. It has been found, in general agreement with Yates's statement1, that the output ...

Notes: [Auszug] EXPERIMENTS are in progress on the mechanism of the breakdown of gases at centimetre wavelengths, some of which have already been reported1. In the previous communication reference was made to the mid-gap streamers which, at atmospheric pressure, seem to constitute the ...

Notes: Summary U.h.f. breakdown stresses were measured in air, oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen at frequencies 0.85 MHz to 11.5 MHz. Mid-gap irradiation by a distant (15 cm) auxiliary spark in the same gas was used. The breakdown stresses were independent of gap length. When the irradiating spark was to close to the test gap, the breakdown stress fell slightly. A qualitative explanation is offered.
