Notes: ZnS0.05Se0.95 nanocrystalline films were deposited onto fused silica and GaAs (100) substrates by the magnetron sputtering technique. The electrical conductivities of the films deposited onto fused silica substrates were measured in the temperature range of 180–300 K. It was observed that the low temperature conductivity could be explained by hopping of the charge carriers in the Coulomb gap while at elevated temperature Mott hopping is the predominant mode of conduction in these films. A distinct cross over from Efros–Shklovoskii to Mott hopping is observed for all the films. Optical spectra were found to be dominated by the combined effects of optical losses due to absorption and scattering. The absorption spectra indicated a blueshift, the extent of which depended on the crystallite size. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Electrical conductivity and Hall mobility of CuInSe2 films were measured in the temperature range of 77–400 K. The films were deposited with different Cu/In ratios ranging from 0.7–0.9 and at substrate temperatures of 620–720 K. Effects of grain boundary scattering on the electron transport properties were studied carefully and it was observed that scattering at the grain boundaries is a predominant factor controlling the electron transport properties at lower temperatures while complex scattering mechanisms become operative at higher temperatures. The energy values of trap levels and the densities of trap states were also obtained.

Notes: [Auszug] The Gund Formation comprises about 500 m of cyclic sediments consisting of conglomerates, sandstones and shales. It overlies unconformably the Syringothyris Limestone, regarded as of Tournaisian age on faunal grounds, and is overlain by the Fenestella Shale Formation of Upper Visean to Bashkirian ...

Notes: Abstract Optical properties of p-type ZnTe films, deposited by hot-wall vacuum evaporation, were studied extensively in the range of incident photon energy 0.6–2.6 eV. Variations of refractive index, absorption and extinction coefficients with incident photon energy are reported in this communication.

Notes: Abstract Treatment of Vibrio cholerae el tor strain SLH22(J) with nitrofurantoin induced dose-dependent prophage ‘kappa’, the maximum induction being 6-fold the spontaneous induction level. UV-inactivated ‘kappa’ phages were Weigle reactivated, the maximum Weigle factor being 1.8 and 2.0 respectively in nitrofurantoin and UV pretreated el tor strain H218 Smr. Nitrofurantoin treatment also caused significant filamentation of the el tor strain H218 Smr and mutation of these cells from ampicillin sensitivity to ampicillin resistance. The levels of the four SOS-like responses induced by this drug were low but significant.

Notes: Abstract The paper deals with the propagation of vibrational waves in an infinite piezoelectric crystal plate belonging toC 2 (monoclinic system) when some sort of heat flow is maintained. The dispersion equations have been determined under a thermal field and also in the case when the heat flow is absent, both for small and large values of the frequency.

Notes: Abstract. Dielectric properties of silver/SiO2 nanocomposite thin films grown by high-pressure d.c. sputtering technique were studied by spectroscopic ellipsometry (300-800 nm). The dielectric behavior of the nanocomposite thin films largely depended on the particle size, its number density and the surrounding environments. The films showed semiconductor-like behavior up to a critical particle size and concentration, beyond which the films exhibited the typical surface plasmon resonance characteristics in their optical properties. The refractive index was also found to have a strong dependence on the particle size and its dispersion in the matrix. The results were found to be consistent with those obtained from UV-VIS optical absorbance data. Bruggeman effective medium theory was used to explain the experimental results.

Notes: Abstract Propagation of longitudinal surface waves on the surface of a rotating monoclinic piezoelectric half space has been considered taking into account generalized thermal coupling as in Green and Lindsay model. Variations of piezoelectric potential, particle displacement, temperature, etc. with depth into the medium and the piezoelectric Poynting vector together with power fiow components have been derived, assuming the existence of a shorting plane at a certain distance above the free surface of the half space.
